Privacy policy

1. Who we are

Assay Markets is operated by Cultigen Group ("we", "us"), which is the data controller for the personal data described here. Contact: hello@assaymarkets.com.

2. What this site does

Assay Markets publishes reference prices for cultivated-meat production inputs and indexes published research. You can browse everything on the site without an account and without giving us any personal details. The data we publish is about products and papers, not people.

3. The personal data we collect, why, and on what basis

Usage analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used. It records pages viewed, the approximate location of your device (country or city, derived from your IP address and not stored in full), device and browser type, screen size, and the site that referred you. Google Signals and advertising personalisation are turned off, and we do not use analytics to identify individuals or to serve advertising. Analytics cookies are set only if you consent through the cookie banner. Lawful basis: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time via the cookie settings link in the footer.

Questions you ask. When you use the Ask box, the text of your question is sent to a third-party AI provider, Anthropic, to generate an answer from our recorded prices and indexed research. We also keep a temporary log of questions and the IP address they came from, so that we can enforce a fair-use limit and monitor the service for errors and abuse. Questions are not linked to a named individual, are not used for advertising, and are not used to train AI models. Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in providing and protecting the service.

Technical and security data. Our hosting and infrastructure providers automatically record IP addresses, request times and similar technical details in server logs for security, error diagnosis and rate limiting. Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in keeping the site secure and working.

Email enquiries. If you email us, we hold your name, email address and the content of your message in order to reply. Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in responding to enquiries, or the steps needed to enter into a contract with you if that is what you are asking about.

We do not collect special-category data, and we do not sell personal data.

5. Who we share data with

We share personal data only with the service providers we need to run the site, each acting on our instructions:

• Google (Google Analytics) — usage analytics.
• Anthropic — processing of Ask-box questions.
• Our hosting, database and email providers — operating the site and handling enquiries.

We do not share personal data with advertisers or data brokers. We may disclose data where required by law.

6. International transfers

Some of the providers above process data in the United States. Where personal data leaves the United Kingdom we rely on the UK's data bridge to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework where the provider is certified under it, or on the International Data Transfer Agreement or UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses. You can ask us for details of the safeguard that applies to a particular provider.

7. How long we keep data

• Analytics data: retained by Google Analytics for the retention period set in our account, currently 14 months, then deleted or aggregated.
• Question and rate-limit logs: up to 90 days, then deleted.
• Server logs: retained by our infrastructure providers for their standard period, typically no longer than 30 days.
• Email enquiries: for as long as needed to deal with the enquiry, and then no longer than 12 months unless we have an ongoing relationship with you.

8. Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

• ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
• ask us to correct data that is inaccurate;
• ask us to delete your data;
• ask us to restrict how we use it;
• object to processing based on our legitimate interests;
• withdraw consent where we rely on it (for example, analytics cookies);
• receive data you have given us in a portable format.

To exercise any of these, email hello@assaymarkets.com. We will respond within one month. We may need to confirm your identity first.

If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We would appreciate the chance to resolve any concern first.

9. Automated decision-making

We do not make decisions about you by automated means that have legal or similarly significant effects. The Ask box generates answers automatically, but those answers are about prices and research, not about you.

10. Children

This site is intended for professional use and is not directed at children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

11. Third-party sites

Prices link to Cellbase and research records link to Cellag, and answers may link to vendor websites. Those sites have their own privacy policies, which we do not control.

12. Security

We limit access to personal data to those who need it, use encrypted connections, and hold operational credentials behind authentication. No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee the security of data in transit over the internet.

We will update this page when our practices change. The date at the top shows the latest revision.
